What is a Webquest? A Webquest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. Webquests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation. The model was developed in early 1995 at San Diego State University by Bernie Dodge with Tom March, and was outlined then in Some Thoughts About WebQuests. Source: The Webquest Page available at : http://webquest.sdsu.edu/overview.htm This Webquest was specifically designed for eighth grade students living in suburban Philadelphia who are preparing to enter high school. By completing the activities students will gain confidence and knowledge with a goal of decreasing anxiety associated with middle school promotion. By challenging them to explore high school activity choices they will hopefully gain the confidence needed to participate. Students are also given an opportunity to examine an actual high school roster and learn how to figure it out. To begin this process, the students are directed to print out a "passport" which is a set of handouts, in booklet form, that correspond to each webquest activity. Upon completion of the webquest, students should present their completed passport (handouts) to their teacher or advisor for review. A rubric was designed to assess the students work. |
